US takes U-turn; Says will consider Modi’s visa if applied.

Amid uproar of controversy related to US visa of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi the White House has now taken an U-turn commenting to consider the application if applied.

According to US state department spokesperson Jen Psaki, if Modi applies for the US visa it will be determined based on the usual qualifications of visa rules in accordance with US immigration law and policy.

Earlier, in New Delhi a letter bomb led to political crisis. Several members of Parliament re-faxed a letter to US President Barack Obama on Sunday urging continuation of the visa ban for Modi. However, out of 65 members nine denied signing any letter in relation to US visa ban for Modi. Among the nine MPs 5 are congress leaders and two of them does not remember of signing any such letter in past.

Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said the visa is upon the US to decide and it is not right for anyone here in India to urge Obama like this.

CPM minister Sitaram Yechury, DMK MP from Rajya Sabha KP Ramalingam and CPI leader Achutan have denied of signing the letter.

Modi has been denied the US visa for last several years over allegations of human rights violations in Gujarat’s riots of 2002. In 2012 sixty-five Indian MPs wrote to Obama government urging not to grant visa to the chief minister.
