Edith Bunker (Jean Stapleton) of “All in the Family” is no more. Dies at age 90.
The famous star of the 70’s sitcom “All in the Family”, Jean Stapleton (played the role of Edith Bunker) passed away at the age of 90.
Jean spent the last years of her life with her son, the director John Putch, in New York. She died last Friday of natural causes. John Putch said that in her eight years of working with ‘All in the Family’, she flourished as the retiring homebody, often staying at odds with her bigoted husband.
The show’s producer Norman Lear said that no one else was as good as Jean, in teaching the lessons on ‘how to be a good human being’.
In 1964, Stapleton started the role of Mrs Strakosh in the Funny Girl with Barbra Streisand.
She won Emmy for her performance in Eleanor, the film in 1982, First Lady of the World and for a guest appearance on “Grace Under Fire” 1995.
With great love and heavy hearts, her son and daughter John Putch and Pamela Putch bid farewell to their Mother, with a capital M. “Her lifestyle and her devotion towards the family taught us a lot of lesson in life”, they said.
After “All in the Family” she was spotted in Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s romantic movie ‘You’ve Got Mail’ and John Travolta’s Michael in 1996. She also made guest appearances in Murphy Brown and Everybody Loves Raymond.
