Raj Babbar expresses regret for Rs 12 meal remark.
Congress spokesman Raj Babbar has expressed regret for his Rs 12 meal remark after facing opposition heat and party distancing itself from the matter.
The filmstar-turned-politician said on Thursday one can have a hearty meal in Mumbai for just Rs 12. Another Congress leader Rashid Masood also made similar remarks separately of Rs 5 a meal in Delhi.
Congress today pleaded the matter need to be given a rest.
Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury said in a press conference today Babbar has expressed regret in statement and so the matter needs to be left there.
Earlier, Ajay Maken, the in charge of communication department of Congress, issued a statement not agreeing with the latest two meal remarks make by the leaders.
Besides, Maken also attacked the opposition BJP for their criticism to the Planning Commission’s Poverty Line figures of Rs 33.30. He asked for an explanation as to why the BJP/NDA government accepted the Rs 16.73 figure in the 59th NSSO survey of 2003.
He added further, “Unlike the BJP NDA, we have de-linked this poverty line from all 150 Central govt schemes including NREGA, ICDS, MDM, NRHM, SSA, PDS except 1.”
